Photoshop Warp Portal.

This tutorial explains how you may create a warp portal in photoshop.

Create a new layer in photoshop and fill it with black
Select a light blue colour and choose a hard round brush to create a cross shape. (hold down shift while you draw to get straight lines)
Then duplicate the layer, and on the duplicated layer use the gaussian blur filter with a setting of around 7 pixels.
From the layers panel right click on the duplicated layer and choose merge down (Ctrl + E).
Then using the smuge tool, start creating spikes similar to what I have created in the picture.

Go to filter->Distort->Wave choose a square wave and mess with the settings until you get something that looks like the example. Here are the settings I used Wave Filter Settings (opens in popup).
Once you are done this duplicate the layer, name the duplicated layer 'blast' and the original layer 'portal'.

Select the portal layer and goto Filter -> Distort -> OceanRipple.
Goto Filter -> Distort -> Polar Coordinates, and choose Rectangular to Polar.
Goto Filter -> Blur -> Radial, use the settings Amount: 10 and Method: Spin.
At this point your portal will look dull, goto Image->Adjust->Levels and use Photoshop's Level Filter to bring up the contrast and brightness.
Duplicate this layer.
Set the blending mode (Dropdown menu in the layers panel) of the duplicated layer to lighten.
With the duplicated layer still selected, Goto Filter->Blur->Radial, use the settings Amount 10 Method:Spin.

Remember the layer named 'blast' you created at the end of step 2 ? Select it and goto Filter -> Distort -> Polar Coordinates, and choose Rectangular to Polar. Set the blending mode (pull down menu in the layers paner)for the layer to lighten.
Goto Filter->Blur->Radial, use the settings Amount 10 Method:Spin.
Duplicate the layer, goto Edit->Transform flip horizontal
Duplicate the layer again, and goto Edit->Transform flip vertical
Duplicate the layer again, and goto Edit->Transform flip vertical, and then to Edit->Transform flip horizontal.
