Behind the Scenes
1. This is how it looks after you fill it in with the pattern.
2. Go to Filter > Stylize > Glowing Edges. Rinse and Repeat.
3.Click on Image > Adjustments > Desaturate, or use the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + U. Now it should start looking silvery like this image. If yours looks a little dark go to Image > Adjustments > Brightness and Contrast, and increase the brightness.
Leave the selecetion as it is for now, then click on the layer that we created for the image at the start of the tutorial. Then create a layer mask clicking on the rectangular button with the circle inside it from the bottom of the layers panel. Then use the paint bucket tool to fill the selection with black.
The parts of the layermask filled with black will not be visible. You should have something that looks somewhat like this.
The scene still looks pretty flat, so we are going to add a soft inner shadow to give it some more depth. Here are the settings that I used, you should experiment to see what works best for your image.
In the finished image I have added some finishing touches such as a shadows.
